11+ Vocabulary
A strong vocabulary is an essential part of preparing for the Bexley 11+ exam. Students need more than simply knowing the definitions of words; they must also develop deduction and inference skills to work out the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary from context.
Vocabulary plays an important role across several areas of the exam. Students will encounter vocabulary-based questions within reading comprehension, as well as a variety of Verbal Reasoning question types. They can also expect to come across technical mathematical vocabulary, where understanding the language of a question is often key to solving it successfully.
Every Sunday at 9am, we will hold a free, interactive and engaging 11+ Vocabulary lesson. Students will explore new words, develop strategies for understanding unfamiliar vocabulary and strengthen the language skills needed for this crucial part of the exam.
The more words students understand, the more confidently they can approach the 11+.

Aloof
Not very friendly or interested in being with other people.
Compulsory
Something that must be done because it is a rule or requirement.
Indifferent
Not really caring about something one way or the other.
Serene
Very calm, peaceful and quiet.
Taut
Pulled or stretched very tight.
Timid
Shy, nervous or easily frightened, especially in new situations.
